Learn to create a beautiful faux bronze finish on your ceramic sculptures with Cold Finish techniques.

Alexis Colbert,  sculpture instructor and studio artists at the Clay Lady Campus, uses layers of acrylic paint washes and colored wax to create a metallic and durable finish on ceramic work.

Bring a bisqued or vitrified sculpture to work on. All materials will be provided. We will also have extra bisque for trying techniques.

Why cold finish you might ask?

Colored wax has been used for centuries to enhance and seal ceramic nonfunctional work. Traditional gloss glaze is not always appropriate for sculpture. Its viscosity can cover the details. The way it refracts light and shadow can interfere with the shadows of your form. With a cold finish you have more control over your end product.

Skills Building – some experience required/ages 16 and up/some hands-on.
